Resistance Band Types by Material

The regular materials for resistance bands include latex, silicone, TPE, and fabric.

-Latex Bands

Latex resistance bands are the most common type of resistance bands. They stand out due to their natural material, high elasticity (normally 6-7 times to its original length, superior to rubber, silicone and any other resistance bands), affordability, diverse styles, multiple resistance levels, and wide range of applications.

-Silicone Bands

Silicone bands typically stretch to about 4 times their original length. Compared to latex bands, they offer less resistance and tend to be priced higher. However, silicone bands have the following advantages:

  • Safe Material,  They could be made from food-grade silicone material, ensuring safety.
  • Latex-Free: They do not contain latex, making them friendly for individuals with latex allergies.
  • Temperature and UV Resistance: They are resilient to both high and low temperatures and are resistant to ultraviolet (UV) exposure.
  • Adjustable Hardness: The hardness of silicone bands can be customized or adjusted to suit individual preferences.

-TPE Bands

TPE bands provide a latex alternative for your resistance band workouts. While they may look similar, there are key differences for your reference:

  • Vibrant Colors: TPE bands come in vivid, lasting colors that won’t fade with use.
  • Less Resistance Level: TPE bands can be stretched to around 3 times their original length, whereas latex bands can achieve 6-7 times their length.
  • Durability: High-quality TPE bands maintain their integrity, resisting the effects of UV exposure, temperature fluctuations, and moisture. But pay attention that TPE bands break quickly and require more care when used.
  • Affordability: TPE bands are often a more budget-friendly option compared to latex.

-Fabric Bands

Fabric resistance bands are made of cotton or polyester with latex threads woven into them. Unlike mini band loops, the fabric bands can avoid rolling up during using, plus more comfortable and durable. And they can have a variety of patterns on the surfaces. However, Fabric resistance bands are a bit pricier. Except that, they are just as effective as mini resistance bands for resistance training.
